Thoughts on the December/January Issue from the Big Guy!

I just wanted to pass on few general thoughts on the December/January issue as a separate box to the on-line debate thing. (By the way, the issue can be found on-line at www.cutandprint.ca).

A great holiday issue, if I do say. I’m happy with the direction layout has been taking. Daniel has been doing just a bang up job with the graphics. Each issue looks a little more presentable with his sharp ads. And that contest page is something to whistle about. Damn fine job.

Laura did a great article on the Port Theatre for the issue and it looks like they’re going to be staying on board for awhile because of the article. So that’s a nice.

Candice came through huge with the prizes this month. Awesome job girl. You’re a workhorse, you know that?

All the writing was great this month. Jason’s reviews were solid, even if he did give Rent quite the 10 line shellacking. Garrick’s Dusty on the Shelves was a nice “beat the street” sort of thing and I’m always happy that Kim is representing the Vintage Voice. Also nice to have the Elizabeast back in fine form.

And both Thomas and Sarah came through with great CD/Book reviews even though they could have skipped out this month, considering they just welcomed Wyatt into the world (congrats guy’s!)

We had a new writer this month (expect a lot more newbies in the future), with Amanda Davis, who’s done some work for the Navigator. A great article on the Western Music Awards from her.

Also, Blake nabbed a wicked interview with the guy’s from Open, Parachute!

A great job all around by every writer we have. You guy’s keep this thing going, so keep it up! Now we just got to get Rob back on board with an article or two.

Based on the strength of the last couple of issues and the entire year and half we’ve put into this project, I’ve got a really special announcement for early next week. The magazine has been working on a few distribution avenues that will soon be announced. I can’t wait to tell you all!

Why Cut & Print Magazine Isn't On-line Right Away

Big thanks to Laura for letting us all know that the magazine is out. Nice job! You did a great job delivering the issue this month!

So yes, the new issue is out on the streets of Nanaimo (and surrounding areas) and we’re again making waves with the new issue. People are responding positively to it, which is always a good thing.

Also for the record (for the same above person). As I’ve stated before and will continue to state until I’m blue in the face (which I don't mind). It’s not important for Cut & Print Magazine to be on-line right away. We don’t want people to read it on-line. We want people to go to places that support our magazine and pick up their own copy. We want people to pass it on to their friends.

This magazine is for people who are in Nanaimo, Duncan, Ladysmith, Parksville, Qualicum Beach and all the other places in between. It’s not for the on-line reader. It’s not for the reader in Spain or the guy in Vancouver. On-line is just a convenient way for people to look at back issues and the like, if they are interested. There’s a reason the cover says on the bottom, “visit cutandprint.ca for past issues.”

Our goal is to make the print magazine something to seek out, to read and to pass along. You don’t have to do that if you can just go on-line the moment it hits the presses and read it. That defeats the purpose of the entire project. It makes the print part redundant. Why don’t we just make it a completely on-line project and cut all the printing costs?

When we’re a national, glossy magazine, then being on-line right away will be crucial.

Or, like Laura said, don’t be cheap, buy a subscription and you’ll never miss an issue.
